EDUSAT, a high profile Education Satellite, which was launched on September 20, 2004 by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is the first Indian satellite built exclusively for serving the educational sector. EDUSAT is specially configured for audio-visual medium, employing digital interactive classroom and multimedia multi-centric system. The live as well as recorded lectures are beamed to the educational institutions through EDUSAT by linking all these institutions by a linking network. This virtual class work teaching with two-way communication links offers new technologies for supporting effective teaching in colleges.
In Punjab 47 Govt. Colleges have been provided with SITS (Satellite Interactive Terminals) and Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana is one of them.
The basic aim of education through satellite is to identify hard topics in all subjects, choose subject experts to deliver live lectures on those topics, to supplement and diversify the knowledge of the students and to make a data base of quality lectures which will be provided to all the colleges.
Lectures have been delivered on various subjects of science, arts and commerce. Lectures on preparation of competitive exams, self-employment options available to the students and lectures on various employment avenues have also been delivered. Edusat is proving to be a very powerful medium for the dissemination of latest and quality education to the students.
